Record Store Day 2014 is almost upon us, so here are some Apollo RSD picks made by Aaron Bolton
The Animals re-issue
ABKCO records series of re-issues
ABKCO Records is re-releasing The Animals second EP for Record Store Day. The EP will have an Intriguing cover of Chuck Berry’s “Around and Around.” Singer Eric Burdon will be performing at Sweat Records in Miami, FL on Record Store Day. Burdon is sure to put on a great show. For those not in the area, head out to your local record shop to pick up the 10” limited EP.
“I’ve Been Around”
“Around and Around”
Live at Silver Platters
If you have been in the know about new UK talent in the past year or so, Jake Bugg is hopefully on your radar. Both Bugg’s albums have been a great success, and with great success comes an onslaught of touring. With an onslaught of touring, it’s only appropriate Bugg is releasing a live album. The album is from his recent Jan. 20 show at Silver Pl
tters in Seattle. Live at Silver Platters will be available both in cd, and 12” vinyl. You may want to arrive early if you have hopes to get your hands on a copy.
“There’s A Beast”
The Porpoise Song
The London based psych-pop group Django Django is releasing a limited release single. This release is being released by the Late Night Series. The series has been inviting artists to make late night themed mixes. Side A, Django Django covers of the Monkees theme from HEAD, “The Porpoise Song.” The B side shall be very interesting, as it includes the spoken word of Benedict Cumberbatch reading Simon Cleary’s “Flat of Angels,” part 4. Being one of the more obscure releases you may want to do some searching for this one ahead of time. Not every shop will be carrying this, but for more info head over to http://latenighttales.co.uk/.
Side A: The Porpoise Song (Monkees Cover Version)
Side B : Flat Of Angles part 4 (Exclusive Spoken Word Piece performed by Benedict Cumberbatch)
The Cure and Dinosaur JR.
Rhino Records Side-by-Side Series
Keeping the trend of series releases is Rhinos Side-by-Side series. If your unaware of what Rhino Records is calling the Side-by-Side series, then you may want to see if your shop will be carrying them. Rhino Records is doing the series with various artists unknown to the buyer. Two artists on one record performing one song. Now that is an interesting concept I have to admit. Get your hands on one, it’s rumored there is only 5,500 of them. One of these bad boys have been announced, and it is smooth UK rockers The Cure with their famous track “Just Like Heaven.” Joining them on the B-side will be America’s Dinosaur JR.
For you metal-heads out there, you may want to grab Motorhead’s Aftershock. UDR is releasing a special 12” picture vinyl and only 4,500 will be available worldwide. They will be 180-gram discs and each will be individually numbered. So if you’re a collector, this will be a great personal touch from the band to add to your collection.
